Suppressing Public Input

The agenda of the June 5, 2025 Special Meeting of the District Council Committee of the Whole and the “Firehall Steering Committee” was dedicated to the review of several consultant's reports on the District's Firehall replacement project.

The focus of this meeting agenda was, foreseeably, also a focus of intended public participation by a considerable number of local residents and taxpayers.  Many had been prepared to communicate their concerns and misgivings with the project's governance and with the scale and expense of a design option that was being pre-emptively promoted as "preferred".

Unfortunately, a meeting that could have facilitated timely and constructive feedback from taxpayers was instead "managed" to suppress dissenting comment. Three letters subsequently sent to Council summarized the intimidating meeting atmosphere.
